To Be List.

It’s a chilly one this campervan morning. The cold sitting in the air occasionally sharpened by the slightest of winds. Thoughts beginning to turn to warmer morning clothing and wooly hats. Breathe on air, steam rising from cup, dew on metal and grass. Although autumn is yet to get a hold, there is the thought that winter is coming, though perhaps it’s too early to talk about that, with October yet to arrive. The American poet John Howard Bryant writes :

“ Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile."

As I say it feels that it is yet to settle. The sky an indeterminate grey, the sun just clearing the horizon turning it into the palest of blues, soon to be swallowed up by grey cumulus cloud drifting slowly eastward. A few Geese pass over head, the sounds of Robins in the Ash, Magpies and Cockerels. Quite a chorus of smaller birds this morning, though most of them unidentifiable. A Squirrel climbs above my head in the Oak feasting on acorns sending debris down onto the floor, my head and shoulders. The stillness and atmospherics appear ideal for the roar of distant commuter traffic to come to the fore. Everything hanging motionless after the strenuous tussle with the winds over the last few days. It’s Friyay and the week begins its slow walk to its end. Not a huge amount to report, prep for a community circle tomorrow, so thoughts turning to that. A return to Scotland on the horizon so prep for that in mind too. My list appears to grow ever longer. I am a great believer in lists. Lists of books read and to read, lists of music to buy, lists of shopping and chores. You can’t beat a good list. Working for myself, the ubiquitous list has become my support and my work partner. It’s nothing to do with motivation, effective time management or being organised. I have a sharpnel cluttered brain of useless thoughts and information, I am dreadful at retaining anything useful and I have the attention span of a gnat. The writer Frank Sonnenberg writes:

“ Forget your to-do list and create a to-be list “

That is also on my list. Lovely days people.

“ You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” Mae West.
