"Until"

And Friday is here once more. Rain soaked ground and flurries of droplets from the Oak this campervan morning. A wee breeze blowing through, light skies and a fresh feel to the morning. As each breath of wind passes by a shower of droplets falls from the trees. The sounds are roads, crows and aeroplanes. Sporadic robin song here and there, still quite mild for the time of year, as October is due to kick in on Sunday. A few conversations with dear friends scattered around the world over the last few days have stuck with me, one particular one around ‘Untilness’. The role that ‘Until’ plays in the construct of our lives. I will do X until something else happens or comes along. We work until Y and then we have permission to do X. You can’t do this, until you have done that. We are passing time until what ever comes next. Do we boundary our lives and our days with the sense of until ? I am going to do this until X and then I can live my life. I will do this until I find something newer, better, more fulfilling, more fun, more anything than where I might be in that moment. Or the perennial question “Is this it “? I will continue doing it until …. You get the idea. A world governed by the ‘Until’. I have been pondering my ‘Untils’. The boundaries and limits the word has put in place, in the past and now. It’s a real powerful word. I sense that we, actually I will own this, that I was brought up in a system where delayed gratification is the norm and in fact you realise in later life that’s it’s utter nonsense. You’re taught until from a young age. In some cases you have untiled yourself into oblivion. It was an interesting conversation and my thoughts are still making sense of it. Until next time, lovely days people.
